Taller Electric Marronage (est. 2018) is an award-winning Digital Humanities (DH) project led by Drs. Yomaira Figueroa-Vasquez and Jessica Marie Johnson.

What began as space for experimental workshops and public writing, became in 2020, a site for creating digital exhibitions, essay/art dossiers, and interviews with artists, scholars, and writers. The work of Taller EM is to share the writing and arts of thinkers of the global majority that are concerned with fashioning methods of escape, taking respite, and finding inspiration. At the center of EM were four questions:

  1. How do you escape?

  2. How do you steal?

  3. How does it feel?

  4. Whatever?

The EM research team the “Electricians,” comprised multi-institutional graduate students who met regularly around readings, contributed writing, curated thematic micro-dossiers, and conceptualized events. In 2022 Taller EM became one of the 12 micro-lab in the Diaspora Solidarities Lab, a Mellon Foundation Higher Learning grant ($4M) that hosted 40+ researchers, 26 community fellows, 3 community parters, and 7 writing fellows.

Taller EM continues to host its Solidarity Speaker Series as well as publish thematic micro-dossiers.
